My initial impression is that the authors of this book dive deeply right away, and so the primary encouragement here is to know, first of all, that we are being guided in this work and that it is a work of spiritual knowing rather than intellectual understanding. Sometimes the most powerful response to spiritual teaching is to say “I don't know.” There is a marvelous short prayer by an early New Thought teacher by the name of Emily Cadie who states, “I don't know the answer, You do; show me.” Put into language that we are a little more familiar with, we could say, “I do not know nor can I know what this means through my personality or intellectual self, but my Divine Self does know and it will lead me in that knowing if I open myself to it. (So much of our work is a paraphrase of “Be stil, and know that I am God.”)

There are a few passages that I highlighted from the preface I will share before getting onto the meet after work:

 “the true teacher is the God within, and they are here to show us the way to that so that we may know our own sovereignty and experience the divinity that is our birthright.”

“At the close of this book, the Guides welcome the readers of this text to a very new life. A very new awareness of their own divinity in form, a new understanding of responsibility for oneself and one’s world. They call their students across the threshold, joyously, emphatically, to come and partake in what they call the Kingdom, described by them as the awareness of God in all manifestation. I have been invited now to follow, and I hope that I do and that I can.”

“by your confirmation you adapt and align to the vibrational intention that has been claimed for you. “You are free.” Like it or not, agree to it or not, what else could you possibly be?”

“To realize something is to know it, and while we know you are free, and the True Self that you are knows you are free as well, the confirmation of it has not claimed itself in manifestation as the life you live.”

“Are we there yet? is the eternal question of the personality self. it wants this work to be done, to be finished so we can rest. The paradox is that the work is not done by the personality self at all, and so we need to work through that one probably again and again. We are kind of like Moses who for 40 years has led his people through the desert to the Promised Land, and yet as close as he can come is standing on a mountaintop looking at the land that is promised to his people. Now before you despair, you must remember that the Kingdom of Heaven is here and now and within you, we just have not completely claimed it as yet, and one of the reasons for that is we are attempting to claim it through our personality selves and so of course the kingdom is going to be out of reach. To the small self it will always be too big or too massive or too perfect or too much in some way.

This is not meant to create a struggle although struggle certainly seems to be an aspect of the picture but struggle is only necessary until we realize we do not have to struggle. To bring another Old Testament image to mind we are like Jacob wrestling with the angel who finally says I will not let you go until you bless me. what a beautiful one liner I will not let you go until you bless me.

And this brings us to an exploration we worked with a few weeks ago that there are no mistakes or errors along the path, but even in those places or spots of forgetfulness, these are all part of of the souls chosen learning.

“our confirmation of you, “you are free”—in encoding in the field you hold, confirmed by you as you say, “I am free” in confirmation to our claim—claims the field, the auric field, if you wish, in vibrational accord with what you have chosen. First the field must be assumed and claimed in this way, and then the life you live must move into accord to it.”

There is so much here in this little paragraph. First the guides are speaking to us in terms of the vibrational field that they are creating for us within all of this teaching. So when we speak of “field” here, we are speaking of the energy that you are. It includes your body, but it is also beyond your body. Your body is part of the dense matter of this field, this energy that you are, and yet we are becoming more and more aware that we are not trapped in this material existence, that are auric field or energy field exists both in and around our body and in immaterial ways as well. A simple example of that is to remind yourself of a joyful moment in your life and notice you can experience that within your physical body and yet you can also touch the energetic field that surrounds you that is also living in joy. The same might be true for a moment of gratitude or love or peacefulness or connection with beauty. And so now we are being encouraged to realize what are experiencing in the energies of this work goes beyond the material plane and also goes beyond our individual existence.

So when we claim “I am free” certainly we allow ourselves to experience the words, and we know there are probably many thoughts in the mind connected to those words, and yet at the same time we realize that we are claiming an energy not just an idea, we are claiming and experiencing not just a set of words. The words themselves are simply like a springboard that allows us to propel ourselves into the experience of freedom. 

So first we know and claim the field, this energy that we are in this new awareness that we are opening ourselves to, and then as it says “the life you live must move into accord with it.” So again, we go past the sense of an idea or set of words, and we say what we are doing now is we are beginning to live out of the experience of freedom. 

“creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.” Romans 8:21

“If you don’t change your beliefs, your life will be like this forever. Is that good news?” — W. Somerset Maugham

“Everything you have claimed and chosen in fear surrounds you in the field you hold, and as you announce yourself as free—“I am free, I am free, I am free”—you actually transform the choice you have made in fear to the new agreement of freedom.”

Not only are we creating a new energy field to live in but we are also releasing the old one. or perhaps better said we are releasing all of those old beliefs, ideas, identities that no longer serve us because they were never true.

And then if all of that were not enough we are adding another piece:

“Now the truth of who you are, the Divine as you, is nothing more, nothing less than the essence of the Divine that is instilled in you and in all things, that seeks its expression as what you are—underline the word what—the manifestation of the Divine as what you are in form, in field, and in expression. And that is new for Paul that we say it this way, the Divine as you in form and field and expression.”

What we are being told is, it is not enough to know what you think that you know-- what you know or the truth of who you are needs to be expressed. And each one of us body, mind, spirit, emotions, history, whatever else you want to throw into the mix, are a unique expression of the Divine and the more conscious we can be of that the more free and joyful we will be.

And again we are reminded and will continue to be reminded of the confusion that comes about when we overly identify with a personality self. Emphasizing again there is nothing wrong with our personality or our ego, they are just doing what they normally do and we could look at them and their activities as being part of our learning as well. 

“This does not mean you decide where you should go to get what you want as you think you should have it. That is the small self commandeering this teaching to get what it thinks it should have. The Divine as what you are—underline what—in expression claims the world, not the small self with its dictates of what should be. You are told what to want and you agree to it at the cost of what might be claimed in a higher octave.”

“The small self cannot know this, and that is why we bring this teaching to you now. The small self cannot know it. She cannot abide in the higher field because what she has known was claimed for her in an agreement to separation.”

Now all the way through this work this evening and through all of the work we have done together, if you were to listen to the personality self it would be saying something to the effect of “Well all of this is very nice but what's it going to cost me what price am I going to have to pay to be in the Kingdom?” 

“But what does this look like?” he asks. “What is the price we pay? Why would we want this?”

Here is the terrible news, Paul. It looks just like you are now, and the woman before you, and the gentleman in the back row. It looks just like them. Your agreement to what perfection means is also a product of the collective that would decide for you what divinity looks like—do you all understand this?—the Divine as you, as who and what you are and can only be. Underline the word only. Can only be. Everything else is an idea and nothing more—an idea that you are not worthy, an idea that humanity cannot get along, an idea that you are not one with the Source of your being.”

Even though we did some reading into the next part of Chapter 1,  The Agreement to the New,  I believe it would be beneficial to stop here and to begin our next session, for the sake of continuity at the beginning of Chapter 1.
